Kirin Cup: [JPN 0-0 TTO] Yuto Nagatomo becomes Japan’s 3rd most capped player

Yuto Nagatomo played his 117th match for Japan against Trinidad and Tobago in the Kirin Challenge Cup on 5 June, and in doing so, became the nation’s third most capped player of all time.

The defender overtook goalkeeper Yoshikatsu, Kawaguchi and teammate Shinji Okazaki, and is now behind Gamba Osaka midfielder Yasuhito Endo (152) and defender Masami Ihara (122).

“I can’t quit this exciting feeling, no matter how many World Cups I have played in the Japan shirt,” the 32 year-old said.

“And I have to play well in order to carry on.”
