Al Duhail’s Shoya Nakajima to accept pay reduction to join Porto

Shoya Nakajima, who plays for Qatari side Al Duhail, looks to be ready to accept a pay cut in order to join Porto next season, according to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.

Nakajima moved to Portimonense in summer 2017 and in his debut season in Europe, recorded 10 goals and 13 assists. With interests from many clubs, he chose to move to Al Duhail at a transfer fee of 35 million euros in February this year.

Now it seems the Japan international’s return to Portugal is drawing near. According to O Jogo, Nakajima has already reached agreement on a pre-contract with Porto. He is said to be unable to adapt to the Qatar football and the climate, as well as being dissatisfied with the level of the Qatari league and the fan support. He is currently drawing 3.5 million euros a year at Al Duhail, but is prepared to accept a reduction.

Porto and Al Duhail will come to a decision on whether it will be a loan with buy option or a full transfer in early July.

Nakajima participated in the recent Copa America, having played all three group stage matches and scored one goal against Ecuador.
