Huesca’s Shinji Okazaki voted MVP

Shinji Okazaki was fan-voted as the team’s MVP, following his goalscoring performance in the 1-0 win over Girona on 28 September.

2 shots on goal, 3 dribbles, 1 goal

Okazaki, in his third straight starts, hit the match winner in the 43rd minute with a spontaneous turn-and-shoot. Two days after the match, the club announced that the forward was selected as the MVP after garnering 61% of the fans’ votes, well ahead of goal provider David Ferreiro (21%) and centre-back Josue Sa (18%). A total of 1,031 votes were cast.

The 33-year-old revealed in the post-match interview that he was relieved to have finally scored his first goal after five games.

Huesca, currently 4th in the Segunda Division, take on first place Cadiz on 2 October.
